Automotive tip (from something I posted on Tribe.net)
The Pennsic-ers on Tribe.net are only now realizing that it would be a good idea to get their battle wagons serviced and roadworthy before heading off to War. So I posted this:
*Bruce's Tire 240 Hegenberger Road, Oakland, for my local peeps. They also have shops in Fremont, San Jose, Gilroy, Los Banos and Salinas.
Do you have a problem with finding a reliable shop who won't take advantage of you, tell you that everything's fine when it isn't, or find expensive problems to fix that don't exist?
Keep an eye open and scribble down the number on the side of the next company truck or service van for a local business that you see. Call it and ask who services their fleet locally. Garages want to keep those fleet accounts, so it's in their best interest to keep those trucks running well.
I get my pick-up serviced by the garage* who takes care of our company trucks. I really like the fact that they check everything thoroughly, call me if they find something unexpected, tell me things like, "You want to think about budgeting for a new set of tires in the next six months" and "You're probably going to be due for a brake job when we do your next oil change." Or, "No charge on that 'Check Engine Light,' warning - tighten your gas cap the next time you put it on.' (Me doing stupid things....)
Even if they didn't give me the fleet rate (one of my few job perks), the quality of the service is is very happy-making.
