Tanka challenge 4/23/11

Each stem is studied,
Each bud is considered for
Balance and beauty.
Under careful hands they bloom,
Dancing even in stillness.

I decided to go into Japantown early this morning in search of a tayaki iron for the making of fish shaped goodies. Soko Hardware was out of them, however, I did purchase a nice suribachi and surikogi (the mortar and pestle kind, not the mountain on Iwo Jima kind).

As I was walking through the mall, resisting All Things Hello Kitty, chocolate filled tayaki by the dozen, and designer handbags, I rounded a corner to find members of Ikebono Ikebana of America putting the finishing touches on some flower arrangements for their window displays. I asked for permission to photograph and was informed that the gentleman in the white shirt is from their parent school in Kyoto.
