Tale of the Heike

Ki-hime's recent post to the Tousando on Sukiyaki Western Django (which looks like great fun in a "Kill Bill" kinda way), sent me off in search of the Dan No Ura sequence from the 1966 film Kwaidan - sorry, no subtitles, but the images are stunning when one is not cursed by grainy video quality. (Run time about 8 1/2 minutes, so you know. I believe the instrumentation and singing are the performance of an actual biwa hoshi of that episode in the Tale of the Heike.  http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=tsxo3pFpBYI

In the process, I stumbled upon this re-telling of the battle of Dan No Ura on Youtube by, of all people, the late Carl Sagan (Run time 7 1/2 minutes).

Me too. "Hoichi" started waking me up at night and it's now part of my storytelling repertoire. "The tolling of the temple bells remind us of the impermanence of life....."
