If it's Friday, I must be Tanuki?

Never thought of myself as a party animal, but there is a party in my imminent future. A bottle of Shirakami sake was acquired last night, as well as a 350 ML of the girly pink stuff, which turns out to be Hana Awaka, from Ozeki. It's the Kool Aid of sake.

My, what a....handsome tanuki. I really can't think of a better way to say it.

Enjoy your sake, lift a cup for me--I'm not supposed to drink anything interesting for the next few weeks.

Tanuki, ...uki, ...uki

First, you warned me about drinking the Kool-Ade... i mean the sake...

Second, that's a photo of my totem animal! I'm gonna have to save that picture :-0

Third, my head no longer feels like it's full of cement and i finally don't have a fever anymore. That Thai soup was the perfect breakfast. Thanks for dragging me out of the house yesterday.

Tan..., tan..., tanuki

OK, ear-worm time...

Check out the tanuki song on this page, as well as the photo of a genuine wild tanuki.

Tan..., tan..., tanuki, ...uki, ...uki

Grrr... i typoed in my entry and i can't delete it. Grrr...

That tanuki song is on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanuki, as well as that photo of a genuine wild tanuki, although his testicles are hidden. Sigh.

I want a tanuki for my garden! A nice, traditional tanuki, not one of the modern PC ones. I'll put him by the potted citrus trees and he can peek out between the branches and scare away bad vibes floating over the fence from the neighbors' yard. Or, if he needs to, he can shape-shift himself into a chupacabras and bound over the fence and scare the crap out of them. That would be good.

They make emasculated tanuki?

[identity profile] takadai-no-tora.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Either emasculated or so fat that the belly obscures everything else. Pretty sad, isn't it?

I've seen the practically spherical stylized tanuki statues, but I was able to find a pretty traditional one a few months ago.

They are a bit of a pain to find outside Japan, though.

So where did you find a traditional one a few months ago? I was in Japan a few months ago and it didn't occur to me to buy a tanuki....silly, wasn't I?

Ebay, from a seller up in Oakland, I think. $30 IIRC.

Around the same time I believe [livejournal.com profile] gurdymonkey found a similar (10" or so tall) statue at one of the Daiso shops cheaper.

We've finally got a Daiso in southern California, somewhere in the northern part of San Diego and I'm going to be down there in about a month, so I'll check them out.
BTW, I got Japanese New Year's decorations at the Daiso in Daly City ([livejournal.com profile] gurdymonkey where you took me shopping)for about the same price as I paid for them in Nagoya last November.
