If it's Friday, I must be Tanuki?

Never thought of myself as a party animal, but there is a party in my imminent future. A bottle of Shirakami sake was acquired last night, as well as a 350 ML of the girly pink stuff, which turns out to be Hana Awaka, from Ozeki. It's the Kool Aid of sake.

Either emasculated or so fat that the belly obscures everything else. Pretty sad, isn't it?

I've seen the practically spherical stylized tanuki statues, but I was able to find a pretty traditional one a few months ago.

They are a bit of a pain to find outside Japan, though.

So where did you find a traditional one a few months ago? I was in Japan a few months ago and it didn't occur to me to buy a tanuki....silly, wasn't I?

Ebay, from a seller up in Oakland, I think. $30 IIRC.

Around the same time I believe [livejournal.com profile] gurdymonkey found a similar (10" or so tall) statue at one of the Daiso shops cheaper.

We've finally got a Daiso in southern California, somewhere in the northern part of San Diego and I'm going to be down there in about a month, so I'll check them out.
BTW, I got Japanese New Year's decorations at the Daiso in Daly City ([livejournal.com profile] gurdymonkey where you took me shopping)for about the same price as I paid for them in Nagoya last November.
