Michael DeBakey 1908-2008

Dr. Michael E. DeBakey died Friday night in Houston at age 99.

Chances are, you know someone whose life was saved or whose quality of life was improved by one of the many now-routine medical procedures or equipment Dr. DeBakey developed during his career.

Read more. Better yet, read this article from the My Hero Project.

Wow, what an extraordinary man! My father had to have septuple bypass (yeah, 7 of 8!) heart surgery back in 1996. No doubt that man saved my father's life through his work.

Wow.

This guy is the primary reason both me and my daughter are alive today: the heart-lung machine. Neither of us could have had our cardiac procedures done that improved the quality and length of our lives.

Thank you, Dr. DeBakey.
