At four o'clock they put out (really awful) free coffee and close the servery,
so I have an alarm so I can get up there and make an espresso before they lock up.

Ah. We don't have a cafeteria setup where I work. The coffee stations have Flavia dispenser machines: you put premeasured packets of coffee in and it makes your beverage, though I usually just use the hot water dispenser and my own bag tea.

It takes fifteen minutes (each way!) just to get off the hill where the lab is to someplace to eat, so including a cafeteria in the design was rather necessary.
