Tsurezuregusa (Essays in Idleness) was written by the priest Kenko between 1330 and 1332. The random mode of composition (zuihitsu or "follow the brush") is similar to Sei Shonagon's Pillow Book, but the subject matter varies considerably. You'd like it, I think.
