A current topic over on the Immortal Geisha forum is making me twitch. Only a couple of weeks ago, someone started a thread about whether or not they felt safe about showing photos of themselves on the internet.

So you want people to respect your privacy, but you don't want to respect the privacy of someone you claim to admire?

I know the word "fan" is derived from "fanatic," but ick.

Yeah, the juxtaposition of those two topics is just weird.

I see the forum owner smacked the concept pretty hard.

Yeah, that's pretty special.

I used to be all about protecting myself as best as possible online. These days? Since I am part of several 'communities' that do all kinds of different, yet very public things, I just don't care.

Though I understand businesses are using the internet to keep an eye on their employees, and will also check up on a person before they get hired (through LJ, MySpace, etc, as well as personal websites).

It's a personal thing, IMO. And that's the only thing it should be. But if one is wanting to compile a list of folks interested in the same things, get permission before posting photos and detailed information.

She not only has quarters for the clue machine, she owns it.
