Since I actually check my site stats periodically,  I already know there's a Russian group that does Japanese re-enactment and a Scandinavian one (not sure what flavor, I can't identify the language) linked to my website's Japanese and surcote pages respectively. The Russian group has a member on the Tousando board and we've chatted clothing, so that one's not surprising. I also know that George Le Curieux has been all over LiveJournal ever since the "Inquisitive Monkey At West Kingdom Court" made the news on SCAToday last year.

Today I got a cry for help from a nice lady somewhere in France.  Yes, Virginia, there are nice people in France. I was lucky enough to meet some of them when I was there in 1990-mumble. The average Parisian is a hell of a lot more polite than the average New Yorker and once you get out of the city, they get exponentially more wonderful to be around - and they feed you, bless them.

First of all, she apologizes for her English. (Her English is excellent.)

She wants to wear kimono and she can't find any in her size. She scores more niceness/humility karma points by revealing what she believes to be her US dress size. My heart plummets into my Filson merino wool socks.

While Japanese women are larger than they were 20 years ago, they are still generally pretty small, which means that trying to buy vintage kimono to fit someone from a Northern European gene pool is problematic. I'm hovering in the Misses 12 - 14 range these days and I have trouble finding vintage kimono that fit me.  Nice French Lady is Plus Sized. All I could do was give her the URL to Ichiroya Kimono flea market and have her write to them about the possibility of having something custom made - which is crazy expensive and all, but it's all I could think of.

I wish I could've been more helpful.

(And on top of it all, I still have this damn cold!!!!!!!!!!!!)
