Yesterday I spent something like 8 or 9 hours hunched over 3' squares of canvas with paintbrushes that Our Kingdom Of Kingdoms have a decent fence at Pennsic. baroness_eilis and I left, with a short break in the middle to wolf down some fast food. My neck and shoulders are still sore.
On the other hand, we had eight people show up and work their paintbrushes off, so we got a lot done. I got to work on the fence panels for Far West and Warriors Gate (two of our groups in Asia) and the Non-White Tree of Non-Gondor (Darkwood) with its scary acorn "eyes," among others. I was also Head Sharpie Goddess In Charge Of Doodling Features On Heraldic Beasties and Hiding Paint Booboos. It has been duly determined that whoever came up with the idea of putting laurel wreaths on ALL SCA branch heraldry should be hung upsidedown by the most painful bits possible and forced to paint them over and over again with cheap-ass paint brushes.
I never mind working my butt off. I mind working my butt off while other volunteers let their socialization get in the way of the job at hand. It was a delight to rip through this project with people who could talk and paint at the same time.
Fortunately or unfortunately, this meant grabbing dinner and getting to the party rather late. I never bothered to change. Despite the fact that kimono deserves to be worn, I envisioned being too crispy to get the obi tied and decided last night was just not the time.
I was thinking I might go into SF with the gurdy, but frankly, I'm exhausted. Today might be an excellent day to be a total slacker instead.
EDIT. The good news is I got the laundry done.
The bad news is I did my taxes. How the $#*&#&@*& did I end up owing money????? I AM NOT AMUSED. Though I might mind it less if I knew it wasn't going to feather some fat republican's retirement or support a war we were lied into.
