At last, a goddess who looks like me!

A few days ago, I posted about a performance by Tamasaburo Bando as the goddess Amaterasu.

I recently stumbled upon this utterly charming drawing of the Shinto deity Ama no Uzume. Frequently depicted as a dumpy little thing with pudgy cheeks, Uzume-sama is the goddess of mirth and fertility, the sort of girl who will subdue a demon by flashing him, or coax the hidden sun from the darkness by dancing and clowning. You go, Hime!

EDIT. The more I look at this drawing, the more I giggle. Her smile is just as crooked as mine.
