Niigata Prefecture, where the earthquake hit, is the home of the koi (carp), is one of the top three sake producing regions in Japan, and second only to Hokkaido in rice production.
Coincidentally, or perhaps not, I saw a new brand of sake on the shelf at Cost Plus about three weeks ago, so I picked up a small bottle of it to take to Pennsic. It's from Niigata. I pray that the news is good before we get to crack it open.
