....was an uninterrupted banquet of shit sandwiches with cheese, it has not been.

I got a very courteous message from the newbie about the moderator brouhaha. I also got a fair bit of support from list members regarding the list set-up.

Jim came through with the annual "give me a good one" tactic at BevMo in selecting a bottle for me. Narutotai junmai ginjo sake in an elegant black box embossed with gold calligraphy and a fat orange goldfish. This one will celebrate the lunar New Year at Estrella.

Lou invited me to check out the new facility the plumbing shop had moved to around the corner and share their Christmas luncheon. Sitting around eating freshly made tacos with a bunch of plumbing foremen and James Taylor singing on the boom box was a lot more fun than it had any right to be.

98% of the construction foremen turned their time cards in on time for the early holiday payroll. I think I was missing six time cards when I left yesterday afternoon. Gracie kicked ass on getting batches entered while I was inventorying and batching them up and we are in excellent shape for getting the last couple of batches in the can and done on Wednesday. If the guys are this good for the early New Year payroll, I will be content.

I called my Dad last night to wish him a happy birthday. During our conversation he asked if I knew a movie called 49 Ronin. "You mean 47 Ronin?"  "I think so." Turns out a student of his lent him the DVD of the black and white Mizoguchi version.  He said he'd put it into the DVD player and fallen asleep after about half an hour because it was late and he was tired. "And I can't tell which one of them is Ronin!" So I had to explain that ronin were the 47 samurai who became masterless when their lord, Asano, was commanded to kill himself. I assured him the film is worth devoting an afternoon or two to, when one is not sleepy.
(Speaking of which, Criterion has released Sansho the Bailiff onto DVD. I just got myself a copy. But I can't sew and watch a subtitled movie at the same time without bleeding on my Twelfth Night silks!)

I marched down to the PO with my pink slip expecting to pick up a package from a family member and discovered it was from two friends from the Japanese boards. The card said, "We bought these for you when we were in Japan, then stuck 'em in a pile and completely forgot to send them to you before now."
I haven't unwrapped them yet, but it feels like books!!!!  (However, it looks like anything that Dad or Mom sent is not going to make it in time.  Ah well.)

I have an invite to spend Christmas with [profile] mamapduck and Her Boys. (I shall ply her with sparkly pink wine that one of our sheet metal foremen gave me!)
