I got - and broke - my very first taiko-induced blister. Although I suspect I wouldn't have gotten the blister in the first place if I hadn't gotten a paper cut earlier today that made me change my normal grip. So I had to change my grip again for the last half hour of the class.

Blew through two repeats of "Hiryu," which I don't quite have memorized yet, but didn't screw up too terribly badly. Note to self, don't pick a drum that's too close to the pillars in the center of the room on this one - I almost took out one of the wall sconces.  We spent most of the hour working on "Shinkyoku." It's a power piece, one of those taiko warhorses that sounds like an express locomotive to the ninth circle of hell. Even Shannon-sensei doesn't know it, since it's something that Sean-sensei's been putting together.

Blister or not, I ended up on the recently skinned wine-barrel taiko that I've nicknamed Mifune-san because it's the meanest, loudest drum in the house. I love playing Mifune-san. LOVE IT. Even the softest tsuku strokes growl on that drum. It's the most fun you can have sober and with all your clothes on, I swear.

Sake buy for HOCM got done last night. (I felt too crappy to stop on my way home from Crown or I would've done it Sunday afternoon). I got some of the Hana Awaka for [livejournal.com profile] momstable  to try, since she likes sweet. It's like someone made 7-up out of rice. I also decided to splurge on a bottle of the Jinyu. It's that good.

Oh! So there I am in the 99 Ranch, buying sake and as I move down the aisle I see a familiar brown crock on the shelf. It's [livejournal.com profile] dustinmartinez's Chinese rice wine from two Estrellas ago - the stuff that smelled and tasted like wet dog marinated in soy sauce. Planted smack in the middle of a section where all the bottles that actually have English on the labels say "rice cooking wine."

Laundry is done. I'll pack the truck tomorrow night and make a grocery and ice run en route to GWW on Thursday night.
