I acquired a 12" x 48" cardboard tube (normally used for pouring concrete) and 100' of nylon braided rope. (I did not think of a can of paint, strapping tape or dowels until after I got home, of course. I may go back for that tomorrow....)  That's enough tubing to get two okedodaiko out of. Easily.  Now I just have to order those djembe rings. I did pounce on OSH's version of the "Mouse" detail sander because it was on sale for $29.99 and OSH is paying the sales tax on all purchases this weekend.

I put on a pair of jeans this morning and the right knee sorta dissolved. I got over the raggedy jeans phase in the 1970's, so when I kill a pair, it's time to buy new ones. I stopped at Ross and found a pair of black Gloria Vanderbilt ones that I can actually wear to work, plus two dirt cheap sweaters.

Now, to see if Mark is done with his laundry so I can start mine....

EDIT: And on the good news-bad news front, J&E were not in Bangkok this week when the authorities shut down the airports, they were in Japan. While they are able to trade their airline tickets and fly back to the US from Japan for the holidays, they do not have their drivers' licenses on them. Unless the airports open up and their friends can express mail their licenses to them, that means no rental car and no detour to the Bay Area while they're in the US for the holidays. Glad they checked in to let us know they're OK though.

Motes of sunlight tease
As they pierce the bamboo blinds.
"Come. Come out," they taunt.
The scrape of rake on gravel
And leaf smoke tell the true tale.

(Disclaimer: Who burns leaves in 2008? Especially in a county that levies fines for burning wood in one's fireplace on designated Spare The Air days?  That said, I am old enough to remember a time when leaf burning was the norm - and the image is far more period-appropriate than the equally evocative burnt dust smell my gas heater emits during the first burn of the season. Now get over your green self and chill, 'kay?)
