Safely arrived at the motel in Carson. I'm about 20 minutes away from the event site, thanks to Hotwire, in a very comfortable hotel right off the 405 for less than the price of a Motel 6. I bet the continental breakfast is better than supermarket donuts and coffee too.
If you've never used Hotwire, it works thusly: go to Hotwire.com, select a city, your check-in, check-out dates, and how many are staying. Hotwire will list unsold rooms by neighborhood, number of stars and amenites with a discount price. You don't get to know which hotel you are in until you book and pay for it. If the rack rate on the back of the door is anything to go by, this room costs more than four times what I'm paying. I get my deal, the hotel gets a few bucks on a room that would otherwise have been empty. Had I a slightly better idea of the geography of the area, I might have been able to score something a little closer, but this'll do very, very nicely.
And on that note, I am going to try to get a decent night's sleep.
