Last minute shopping karma
Sep. 26th, 2009 11:04 amNever did find my flashlight, so I headed over to the Walgreens down at Alameda Townee Centree - what they're calling the old South Shore shopping center and by God if they're going to spell it with terminal e's those e's get pronounced! Found a flashlight AND sample size body wash, which makes so much more sense than trying to deal with wet bars of soap while traveling.
I'd decided to pick up a book on hiking Yosemite at the Borders after having spent too much time and paper trying and failing to print out a map of the Panorama Trail route from the Internet. It didn't open until 10, so I had a spinach and bacon souffle thingy and a chai at the newish Panera bakery. A good thing it's at that end of town or I'd be tempted to carb abuse. I saw a cinnamon roll the size of my head go by and settle itself at the table beside me.
Killed another few minutes at Kohls: Found a pair of cheap Hang Ten flip flops for showering in on clearance at Kohl's($1.60) and a Jansport tote for $20 that says it's a laptop bag but is the perfect size for packing for a one night stay. (I have a couple of duffels, but they're too big for some jaunts.) Got stuck behind a family with badly behaved children and two tagless items at check-out. * Got another 15% knocked off my total purchase at the register.
Made a surgical strike on Borders, in and out for the book with decent trail maps.
didjiman will be along after lunch and then the adventure can begin. Why yes, I am stoked, thank you.
*I must have done something in a past life. When I get into a checkout line, about 40% of the time, someone ahead of me is involved in a delay: the register tape runs out, prices don't scan correctly or price tags vanish, the ink runs out while a check is being written. This happens with sufficient frequency that it is not coincidence, I really think it's me.
And I STILL have that damn Barry Manilow tune stuck in my head, and Vincent Perlman and Doug Jones are both flat.
