Bought a two CD set of music by Django Reinhardt and the Quintette du Hot Club de France awhile ago and kind of forgot I had them. I found them this afternoon and I am kicking myself I'd stuck them in that pile without getting around to remembering they were there before now. The original recordings were from the 30's and they couldn't get rid of the aural fuzz and crackles and that's just fine with me. Oh for a slinky gown, a cigarette holder and some dashing thing in a dinner jacket! The clarinet solo on September Song is to die for. Volume 1 of this collection is on iTunes, if anyone is interested.  Ooh, great, swingin'  arrangement of "Night and Day!" with Stephane Grappelli's violin and Reinhardt's guitar trading solos.   And "Nature Boy."

Kinda makes up for the fact that nobody in this town seems to have any interesting holiday lights on their houses, at least in the neighborhoods I've driven through on my errands. It's all boring white icicle lights (which given the climate are just plain stupid).

The only good thing about my end of the counter at work being the holiday goodie dumping ground is that the reek of fudge, coconut laced sugar cookies and other treats is downright stomach turning and I haven't tasted a single one. I am rather tired, however, of having to de-crumb the counter a minimum of twice a day, not to mention, MY workspace when debris inevitably gets knocked off the counter onto my desk.

Gotta say I love the reaction I get when I walk up to a red kettle, snap open my change purse and dump the entire contents. The girl outside Walgreen's was thrilled. Ringing that darned bell for hours must get dull pretty quickly.  I figure the two random bowls of loose change around here are good for three, maybe even four more coin dumps.

OK, what is up with LJ tonight? That's the third time it's burped and thrown this entry into Writer's Block.....I'm pretty sure it's not because there's a 78 spinning around in my CD drive. Like one would fit.
