It arrived in this afternoon's mail. It's shimmery, slightly sheer and with a somewhat stiff hand. It's also a pale aqua - the color in the photo was no fluke. I pulled a couple strands off the bolt end and did a burn test over the steel sink in the kitchen. The speed at which the fibers went up, coupled with the faint burning-leaf scent appears to confirm that it is jinken (rayon), which means it should accept dye, but I don't think I want to mess with it. It's freaking gorgeous as it is.

There was also a packet from the New York office of the Japan National Tourism Organization, containing a canvas tote bag with the "Japan in 2010" art on it, a "Tokyo Handy Guide", a "Tokyo Handy Map", travel fliers for package tours with a murderously high single supplement fee leaving inconveniently from Newark, NJ, and a letter advising that "We are sending a small gift to randomly selected contest entrants." So not happening this year as I need to finish getting my teeth fixed, get home to see my family and pencil in a wedding in October in Phoenix, but I'll get there. Some day.....
