You would think with all the commiseration about the fact that I had to get up at 4 AM PDT to fly out here my family would not have decided to blast the phones in this house at 5:11 PDT (8:11 AM EDT) on my last day in town, but no.

Miriam insisted on stopping over before she headed to work, and Mom will be stopping over at some point, most likely while I'm in the shower. It's not like anyone can hug me with my sinuses dripping biotoxins either. My flight leaves BWI at 5. My brother-in-law will swing by to get me on his way to pick up the kids from school and then drop me at the airport. In the meantime, I will suck down some tea and bond with Elaine's dachshund, Jack, who is trying to telepathically order me to make him some toast.  Silly beast, dogs can't DO Jedi mind tricks.

Spent last night mending two blown out armpit seams on the Richmond Depot jacket. I suspect Brian tried to pull it off over his head instead of unbuttoning it, so I went over both arm and side seams again with an extra line of stitching.

The birthday party at the bowling alley was noisy and mercifully did not include disco. The kids clearly had a great time sugaring up on pitchers of Coke and Mountain Dew. Technique for getting balls down the alley by six and seven year olds is pretty comical. We had a couple of Nick's friends in the mix (ten year olds) and everyone got along pretty well and had a good time. Brian got lots of good presents, some GI Joe vs. Cobra 6" action figures, a bigger GI Joe Marine with all sorts of plastic deadly accessories, and a Star Wars Lego set that elicited a unison chorus of "Whoa!" from all the boys when he unwrapped it. The cake had an Indiana Jones figure on it, as well as the giant boulder from the opening of "Raiders," both of which were immediately salvaged and washed off in the rest room so B could play with them later. Anybody remember all the fuss and creation of the PG-13 rating for "Temple of Doom?" Brian loves it. When asked if he thought the sacrifice scene was scary, he told Elaine, "It's not for real."

Walked around downtown Annapolis a bit yesterday with Elaine, mostly window shopping at upscale stores we can't afford. I snapped a couple of photos because there's lots of interesting architecture dating from the Colonial period. I did buy a sleeveless tee shirt from the Black Dog (perfect for taiko) and found a pretty pendant with cranes (birds, not equipment) at a funky little shop called Vivo.  Did dinner with Elaine, Alex and Mom at the always yummy Main Ingredient.  (Photo dump will occur later this week after I get home.)
