Judging from the way raindrops are landing on the skylight like fat, wet paratroopers on a mission, my decision to pack down and leave Coronet last night was the right one.

Friday night, on my way down there, I decided to detour by way of San Juan Bautista because it was still light out. Shot a few photos which I will download later, then hit the Safeway in Hollister and got to site a bit before sundown. Managed to politely decline an invitation to an I'd-rather-tear-holes-in-my-eardrums-than-attend-your-bardic* for Saturday night and caught some therms by the fire with [livejournal.com profile] ppfuf , Geoffy-Matt, Charles and Petra before retiring to my cozy if non-period Kelty Mistral Zero Degree mummy bag. (I cannot say enough about how much I love this sleeping bag, plug, plug, plug.)

*Not only would this have required me to do something I am just not into right now, it would also include having to put up with the presence of (a) the person who once recorded me and several other performers without our permission, got caught and refused believe stealing our performances was wrong, and  (b) Gaius' giggling twinkie.

Had to listen to the musical stylings of some guy with a guitar who thought 60's folk was appropriate for an SCA event, but finally fell asleep. "Baby the rain must fall"? Seriously?

Something snurffly this way comes. I'd pitched my tent near the fence because there was a lovely tree there. I was awakened from a sound sleep by grunting and rustling noises somewhere to my left. Hoping that it was on the opposite side of the chain-link, I slapped the canvas beside my head several times. It moved away. I had a hard time falling back asleep after that.

Spent most of Saturday barefoot because the grass was so wet when I got up there was no point in dealing with tabi and geta. It was mostly cold, windy and grey. Hung out with [livejournal.com profile] layla_lilah  at the new A&S sunshade and worked on my linen under-kosode for awhile while watching the tourney. Got to meet Branwen and Rhys' new baby Caedmon, who was mostly inscrutable with the occasional complaint of gas or wet bottom. Scored a hug from my Prince, who looked like the Venetian Vision of Death, at least from the collar down, 'cause he's too darn sweet and cheerful for Death of any nationality. (All that black silk with holes slashed in it! That's got to be some kind of karmic wrong.)  Also got some face-time with [livejournal.com profile] barone_antonio, congratulated  [livejournal.com profile] joycebre on her impending elevation to the Order Of The Leafy Greens, and was duly social with folks.  Hung around for Court. It's so good to see [livejournal.com profile] leohtulf  and [livejournal.com profile] misagillian  having such fun with their reign.

When my feet got cold enough that lovely soft grass felt like nails, I put on tabi and geta. It helped some, but by the end of the day my right foot was bothering me. I may have a touch of metatarsitis or something. It feels fine now, but I think I'll take an Advil.

Time to get dressed, then I'll head south to find the Scary Fabric Store and see if they have anything for Just A Fighter's new clothes.

How green are the hills
Peeping through their misty robes
Across the harbor.
Soon it will be the time for
The glow of distant lanterns.
