Met James for the hotel's breakfast bar. I ended up having some sort of granola based cereal and cranberry juice. We walked down to the Convention Center at Stoopid O'Clock* and sat out front until registration opened. I had registered for a day pass, basically so I could hang out with him for today's activities. I actually got some interesting shots while we were sitting outside under an overcast sky.

Went through registration, wandered around waiting for things to open, then walked back up towards the hotel, James dumped his bag in the room and we grabbed an early lunch at the Ihop, because none of the convention center cafes or the high priced eateries aroundStaples Center appealed. Went back after lunch, browsed the book vendor and bumped backpacks in a very dark, crowded exhibition hall where a variety of high tech toys and gadgets for graphics work, motion capture, modeling and other things were being demonstrated. James was in hog heaven and I admit it was fairly interesting even for me.

We walked back up to the hotel for about an hour's down time, then decided to walk across downtown to find the Bradbury Building and Little Tokyo. The latter was full of tourists. We went in Kinokuniya where I got to look at a book on calligraphy that I'd browsed on Amazon. James informs me there's a copy one of the boxes of books he's planning on sending me anyway, so I didn't buy it, or the gorgeous copy of Akira Kurosawa: Master of Cinema, which I should probably wishlist on Amazon.com for all the good that ever does me. We ended up not eating in LT because a lot of places were closed on a Sunday and the others were packed with tourists. I also generally defer to James on food choices because there are certain things he can't or shouldn't eat for medical reasons.

We hiked back across town and ended up having dinner at the Pantry Cafe, which we'd been walking past all weekend. It's been there since 1924. An older man in a sport coat at the table next to ours was just finishing his dinner. He told us he'd been coming there for 40 years and it's only been closed one day in that time. He hoped we'd come hungry. No menus save for what was posted on the walls. James got scrambled eggs and perfectly cooked bacon. I had a massive ham and cheese omelette that came with enough fried potatoes to feed four people. Happy tummies all around.

Hung out downstairs with James with our feet up on the bed for awhile watching "Deadliest Catch" reruns, but it's about time to crash. I figure between the Convention Center leg and the trek across downtown, I've done easily five miles on foot today.

* defined as being up too early for anything to be possibly going on other than convention staff showing up for work.
