I am celebrating what would have been Gaius Richard Auklandus' 57th birthday by wearing the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome tee shirt he gave me. It's a vibratingly loud magenta with a Sopwith Camel dogfighting a Fokker DR-1 against an obnoxiously orange sun. Cheese puffs have been consumed to commemorate the occasion.

I love simple solutions. Due to high fire danger, candles were verboten at Crown. I have some small LED tap lights that fit perfectly inside my basket lanterns, but they cast a greenish white light that wasn't very natural looking. A sheet of orange tissue paper wrapped around each one produced the desired effect without blocking light output.

Plywood tabletop is dry and has been inserted into the truck. It could stand to be sanded and get another coat or two, but I expect it to get dinged up in transit anyway.  Stools are on the front lawn drying. Seats still look dirty, despite scrubbing, from several seasons of weather exposure and people using them as foot stools. Which I don't really mind, they're just getting um, weathered. Lived in, you know.

Now that it's all over but the official announcement, I can start thinking about slapping Saionji's mon on things. I've been thinking about making a fabric valance for the ridgepole to hide the dangling bits of string suspending my set of blinds. And with winter coming, I can maybe start thinking about concentrating on shibori again. I was looking at the catepillar green mummy bag as I packed up my tent yesterday morning and found myself toying with the idea of making a kake-futon.....

The plaid kosode is getting thumbs-ups over on the Tousando. One of the guys reminded me I'd posted an "eye bleeder" and had said I wanted to make it. http://www.kurosawamovies.com/gallery/d/2273-2/kagemusha08.jpg, specifically Oda's retainer in the red and white ombre kataginu kamishimo. I'd like to try dip dyeing again - the orange kosode had some odd wicking issues, probably due to my own clumsiness in trying to wrangle wet, dyed fabric out of the pot to hang in the shower.

Off to sew a collar on the blue jacquard kosode. The little squares make it have an unfortunate resemblance to eyelet cotton, but it'll do nicely for an under robe.
