The low hanging moon
Seems caught in telephone wires
Viewed from the side street.
Hungry, I hurry home with
My string bean beef and fried rice.

The above was inspired by an enormous waning moon I saw as I walked up the street to the New Bamboo Kitchen to pick up dinner last night.

This morning, I found two messages in my Tousando in-box. The first complimented the helicopter tanka, the second praised the Daylight Savings tanka

Any of us who have ever aspired to write something, even if it was an assignment for school, have probably been exhorted to "write what you know." The aim of my month long challenges to myself (and those who choose to play along) is to come up with a poem every day, regardless of whether I'm inspired, whether I've seen something during my day that cries out to be a poem. Some almost write themselves, some are a struggle.

It's definitely been a "write what you know" kind of week.
