A couple years ago I opened the closet and realized I owned an awful lot of black clothing. So I told myself I could not buy anything new that was black, and more or less stuck with it.

I'd like to institute the No Black Rule for sewing. I'm running up some of JAF's kosode order this weekend. The white went like a breeze. The black is killing me. It's SO hard to see what I'm doing it's not funny.

I am, however, trying to ease the pain with a terrific internet radio station that [livejournal.com profile] layla_lilah  recommended to me awhile back. It's called "1920s radio," but right now Oscar Peterson is barrelling through some kick-ass boogie woogie, so don't let the name fool you. They play from the 1900's to 1950, and they're based out of Virginia. I'm streaming them through the menu at http://www.shoutcast.com/ which doesn't require additional plugins. Some of the novelty songs are pretty goofy too.

And now off to buy more thread......

"Come out," taunts the breeze.
"Come out," teases the sunshine
As it leans through my window.
Yet duty requires I sit
Indoors and sew awhile more.

Though I will say that the break to run out for some more thread was needed. The headache I woke up with is mostly kinda sorta gone, lunch has been eaten and collar interfacing was cut out while I took a break with another episode of "Babylon 5" and I should be ready to do battle with black fabric and black thread in a moment or two.

I'm loving the tunes on 1920s' Radio. It makes such a nice change from the stations I listen to in the car: KDFC for classical, KFog for rock/pop and KCBS for news and traffic.

EDIT: 4:30 PM. Definitely time to knock off. Two kosode and two "No-sode" (per JAF's request for some sleeveless ones) are assembled except for attachment of the collars. That leaves the two red ones to knock out next weekend, maybe. I'll probably do the collars by hand in front of the babblebox during the evenings. I just feel like I have more control over the materials that way.  Definitely a Good Dent (TM), which vindicates my choice to not attend Collegium or the Perfectly Period Feast, which, judging from reports and photos posted so far, were both a success.

Hot damn, I won! Set of three fans, two of which match and will probably end up being prezzies for Their Excellencies. I don't know what they have accessory-wise, but nice sensu are must-haves.  The third is much smaller. I'll have to see what it's like. Might make a nice gift for someone, or I might keep it.
