Met up with Katayama-dono and Jane in Japantown last night and had a lovely dinner and visit at my old standby, Kushi Tsuru. It's cozy, the servers have always been very attentive, and the food is pretty decent. Still engaged, still happy, and we're talking about doing something to celebrate properly at the next GWW.

I am trying to will myself not to get sick, but today was a bit iffy. I blame it on a co-worker who I found hacking up a lung at my desk when I came back from lunch on Monday. (She was looking something up in one of our time sheet files to write up a correction.)  It was bad enough that she took Tuesday off. I woke up with a slightly scratchy throat and have felt mildly thick headed on and off all day. I have not been coughing or sneezing at least. I'll see how things progress, but if I have to skip Twelfth Night, I will.

"Interesting times" may be taking their toll on The Rising Sun encampment. Yagyu's between jobs. The folks we usually camp with from Atenveldt aren't having an encampment this year. Yagyu's trying to raise Uji and see if Uji has room for us with some Outlands group. I looked at my amassed vacation/personal time and decided I have enough time I could go to Estrella a day or two earlier than I do* (more on this later), so I've indicated publicly on the Tousando and in a note to my kingdom land agent, that I'd willing to request land from the West and be our land coordinator if needed. If Uji doesn't respond (I fully expect him not to as he completely dropped the ball after fussing at me last year to come to an event in their kingdom over Memorial Day), I'll go forward with getting us a patch in the Western encampment.

*So I got to thinking. I have to drive to Arizona anyway. I've got the time to get to site by Tuesday or even Monday. What if I headed out early on Saturday and stopped over at the Grand Canyon? I went there some 20 years ago and loved it, but it was at a different time of year. And I certainly enjoyed my solo detour to the Salton Sea and Joshua Tree on my way home last year. And I didn't get to have a birthday road-trip adventure last month, so I'm about due for an adventure. If I got in Saturday night, I'd have all day Sunday at the park, then do the 5 hour drive to war on Monday morning. Carpe diem: there were vacancies at the Bright Angel Lodge available - so I booked a room.
