Counting down
Feb. 9th, 2011 05:37 pmLaundry is cycling.
Drums have been loaded and there is still space in the back of the truck. It should all fit IN the back of the truck if I put my Estrella clothing in a large suitcase and my Grand Canyon stuff in a knapsack. Small cooler will fit on the floor of the passenger seat.
Not buying any more sake. Between Christmas gifts and leftovers I have a 720 ml bottle of supermarket-grade (but perfectly drinkable) Sho Chiku Bai that went to Great Western War and came home unopened, a 720 ml bottle of Murai Family Nigori Gensho (unknown quantity), a 720ml "Bride of the Fox" (another unknown quantity), a 350 ml unopened Hana Awaka (the bubbly in the pink bottle), a 702 ml Jinyu (my favorite!) and half a bottle of the Momokawa Asian Pear. Also restraining myself on the snack front. I have some rice crackers, some sesame candy and I may put out some fresh fruit, but that's it. No sense wasting money on mochi and manju when I don't know if people are even going to eat it. Alien snack foods in dimly lit conditions are tricky at the best of times and I'm tired of having to pitch most of it the morning after.
I did, however, pick up a small gel-fueled fire pot. Fire pits are great, but they eat truck space, fire wood and you can't put it out when you want to go to bed. OSH had some pots of various sizes, but they all have the same size fuel container, so I went with one that's fairly compact - maybe 7"x 7. Cost me a whopping $20, which suits me. If I hate it, I'm not out a lot of cash. It'll at least provide a bit of light and maybe enough heat to warm hands over. Best of all, it can be put out quickly with a snuffer.
Weather outlook for the Grand Canyon portion of the festivities is sunny, no precipitation, with daytime highs in the mid 50s with nighttime lows in the teens. The 10 day forecast for the Estrella site is likewise dry with daytime highs in the 70s and lows around 40. Possible side trips on the way to or from the Canyon could happen. Montezuma's Castle, maybe.
Now where are my doggone long johns?
