Though I mostly spent the morning stimulating the economy.
First stop: Ranch 99 for a 1.5 liter bottle of Sho Chiku Bai sake, plus another small one of the Hana Awaka, 'cause folks do seem to like that, tea (Yamamotoya green was on sale so I grabbed two boxes, knowing I may have to allow tea-bag users to deal with the making and dispensation of tea) rice crackers, adzuki beans (which I need to go soak), mochiko, kinako and katakuriko. Crap. I didn't get any cooking matcha. I figure make up a test batch of mochi tomorrow afternoon and see how it goes. Thinking classic red-bean-paste filling, perhaps coating some with sesame seeds, maybe even mooshing up some fresh fruit for a filling. Or nuts....
Stopped at the Barnes & Noble in El Cerrito and treated myself to a copy of the PBS Bleak House and, inspired by last night's screening of 13 Assassins, Chushingura, a film near and dear to my heart as James considered it (and a medium pizza extra cheese) perfect post-break-up-therapy.
Decided after the festivities at Mists Cynagua War (where I was reduced to wearing an anachronistic pair of ankle boots) to check out Young's Trading Company and see if they carried jika tabi. The older Chinese gentleman behind the counter looked slightly puzzled when I called them jika tabi, so I corrected and said, "tabi boots," and gave him my size in centimeters and men's American shoe size. Second pair I tried were a good fit, so I now own a pair of Ninja High Tops for when I need boy clothes.
Stone Mountain & Daughter: bought a half yard of overpriced cotton with dragonflies on it to make a pair of kyahan (for wearing over hakama and said Ninja High Tops), plus found five yards of lilac jacquard linen on the sale rack at half price and had to get some of that.
Orchard Supply Hardware: one 1" x 48" poplar dowel. I noticed my bachi were getting pretty torn up at MC War, so it's time to make some new ones.
