Hump day updates
Jun. 15th, 2011 08:11 pmI sent a message to LiveJournal support last night. Today I was sent a link that loaded JUST as slowly as everything else around here:
My original request: "I've been experiencing extremely slow navigation around LiveJournal for several days. I've cleared my cache and history and I do not have problems on any other internet site but this one.
It's extremely frustrating. Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated.
Diagnostics: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.0; rv:2.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0.1 "
LJ: "Our operations team has made some recent changes to our servers which we believe will improve site performance. Please let us know if you are still having problems with LiveJournal pages loading slowly."
Me: "Yes, it took about three minutes for this to load."
And another four for my response to go back to you before the page cycled through.

I wonder if it has occurred to anyone of the complainers on SCA-Waste that not paying one's site fee to an event amounts to stealing from the kingdom? As a relative newbie who has been attending events since November of 1995, I have never blown off a site fee by accident or on purpose. First stop is ALWAYS gate. (OK, sometimes the first stop is the port-a-loo right NEXT to gate....) Then again, I was "born" in a kingdom where it was a point of honor to present one's proof of membership without having to be asked for it, just as it was a point of honor to have our badges out to flash to the Cooper's Lake staff members who manned the gate by the archery field when I came back from each shoot. We can't all be Frederick of Holland.
Now, go get your pitchforks and torches. I'll wait.

I don't recall if I mentioned it here yet, but I have an invite to attend a Japanese themed "murder mystery" event up in An Tir at the end of the summer. (As usual, the invites have been from people I've never actually met except electronically!) Keeping an eye on fares from Southwest right now. They're doing some specials that might keep it affordable, but I need to give it a think..... (For those wondering, I suspect the event copy was written by the deputy autocrat. We've corresponded before and English is not his first language.)
