So what HAVE I been up to.
Aug. 6th, 2011 10:42 pmThe Tuesday night headache kept going right into Wednesday morning, which kinda sucked. I refuse to promote it to migraine status because it wasn't one and I know folks who get real migraines. I could function, I just wasn't happy about it.
I managed to snag a nap after work for nearly two hours, then met James, Sylvia and Lyman for dinner at a place called Cactus up on Solano Avenue in North Berkeley, which was pretty good. I had a fish burrito and prescribed a Corona, figuring it might assist in getting a decent night's sleep.
Spent most of Thursday morning in an IT training class so I could get up to speed on the new cell phone my company issued me, and running the reports I usually do Thursday AM in the afternoon. Headed over to do dinner with James, Sylvia and Lyman, which ended up being take-out Chinese at the apartment because Sylvia's daughter and daughter's boyfriend had a flight cancellation and had to join us by BART from SFO which meant they weren't going to get in until late. Fun though, and I came home with leftovers (which I had for lunch today).
Drove down to Santa Cruz Friday after work to meet up with my Dad. The 880 to 17 drive is technically more direct, but there's a huge construction zone on 880 in Hayward right now which was showing all signs of being a parking lot, and the winding route over the mountains on 17 brings out the maniac in commuters and beach-bound alike. Instead I took 92 across the bay and over the hills (into the fog!) to Half Moon Bay and picked up Highway 1 going south into Santa Cruz. Even with the marine layer in full greyage, it's a pretty drive and didn't take me all that much longer to get up to UCSC to meet Dad.
As he'd been pretty much either on campus or out with friends/colleagues at a couple places in town, we drove back up 1 about ten miles and had dinner at the Davenport Roadhouse. We both had the corn soup, which was terrific and tasted like fresh sweet corn, he had the artichoke and leek lasagne and I had a ribeye steak with sauteed onions and artichokes, the best onion rings I have ever had (and I'm not an onion ring fan), and mashed potatoes. The fresh berry pie was a winner.
I dropped Dad back at the campus and made it back home at a reasonable hour. Slept in this morning for a bit, then worked on a pannier bag for my bike. Remember the pannier bag project? The one I haven't touched since I bought the darn fabric? I took the cut out bits and sat on the sofa watching movies and did it by hand. Will try to get a picture tomorrow.
Dad spent today with friends in Oakland and may or may not call me tomorrow depending on whether said friends are busy or not. If he does, maybe we could do SFMoma. The Stein Collection show is right up his alley...
