Dictionary.com considers grumpy and curmudgeonly synonymous. My Websters indicates that curmudgeon has additional connotations of age and gender, "A crusty, ill-tempered and usu. old man."
Know why I chose curmudgeon in the first place? Because nobody dismisses it as hormones when a certain gentleman of my acquaintance shakes HIS fist at the universe.
Anybody can be grumpy. Curmudgeonliness is earned.
