The city of Concord couldn't rationalize spending money to buy a tree while operating at a fiscal deficit, so they opted to decorate a live one already growing in Todos Santos Plaza. As fate and logistics would have it, said tree is a highly fitting symbol of the season in these tough times, and has inspired a blanket drive for the local domestic violence shelter. Go Concord!

Nice to see that Concord has finally gotten a clue. I grew up there, this was a city that spent 500K on a ghastly public "art" display that was so roundly reviled that they dug it out 3 months later, then being sued bu the "artist" for breach and spending another 750K+ to settle with said "artist". Instillation looked like a row of 24 giant aluminium knitting needles.

Pleasing to see a corporate entity can actually grow more responsible.

After seeing the pictures, I'm not so sure that tree is "live". There's a much fluffier one behind it.... Are they trolling for sympathy after all?

The "fluffy" ones all tend to be close enough to sidewalks or the street that the city was worried about right-of-way problems, according to the news coverage I've seen locally.
