I managed to leave the Antiques By The Bay flea market with only photos. (I do have more dental work coming up, and plane tickets to pay for!)

Spent the afternoon in the dark with a very young Toshiro Mifune and Takeshi Shimura. "Stray Dog," and "Drunken Angel" are two very early Kurosawa films which I had not previously seen. "Dog" is about a rookie cop (Mifune) whose pistol gets lifted while he's on a crowded train and the hunt to find the gun and the "stray dog" who's got his hands on it.  In "Drunken Angel," Mifune plays a yakuza with TB. Shimura is his curmudgeonly doctor who drinks too much.  Both well worth a look.

The monkeys made me smile, but your troll butts... BWA HA HA HA HA HA!

You have amazing restraint. I don't think i would have been able to leave without anything.

Your movie musings have been making me nostalgic. These are the sorts of movies I grew up watching with my dad. Those and the badly dubbed Kung Fu movies.

I confess I was shooting things that were (a) colorful and (b) amused me. My sister used to collect those troll things.

I didn't really discover Kurosawa until July 4, 2000, when a friend brought a copy of "Yojimbo" to our indoor-it's-too-hot-to-barbecue-barbecue. (It's actually James' fault I ended up doing a Japanese persona in the SCA a couple years later.) Fortunately, I've been remedying that fact ever since!
