There are indeed decent quality long wigs, although they tend to be pricier than short ones. You definitely want to go for quality with long though, as the tangling issue is a pain.
Using a fishnet wig cap (as opposed to the ones that are solid pantyhose fabric) can help with securing the wig to your head and might also help reduce the heat retention.
