I blame callistotoni. I HAD to Google "nativity bear."

It's been done. A lot.

At least in this one, the Son of Man is actually human. Son of Man. Not Son of Bear.

If you'll excuse me, I have to go use some Brillo on my brain now and say a decade of the rosary....

In point of fact...

...I actually own a "black bear" nativity set. It was given to me last year (there's a bit of a backstory; not relevant here). I both and my then housemate Maria wondered about the fact that the baby Jesus in this set is a little bear, and how that would be seen by someone who is Christian. So we asked someone who we knew was such and they didn't have a problem with it. All in all it was a "meaning/feeling is more important than form"-sort of thing.

The head of the St. Vincent de Paul charities here in San Diego is a chap named Father Joe Carrol (nice guy) and he has a collection of nativities (imagine that).

His collection was on display a few years ago, and was written up in the local paper - they asked him about the oddest one...

That would have been the set from Chiapas, Mexico - where all of the people (including Baby JC) are wearing masks and holding AK-47s - just like the Chiapas rebels
