I just completed a pow-wow with the young man who was taken as a squire on Saturday night. He emailed me to see if I was serious about my offer to make him an obi. I assured him that I was and sent him here to see the "Shoot Me" kosode, since I know I still have some red silk left from it. Evidently he didn't realize that the Tosenin kosode was hand painted because he expressed surprise on seeing the web page I sent him to. I got him to send me a picture of his device and told him I'd let ideas percolate for a bit and then maybe send him some sketches to see if he likes them. It's a squire's obi, it should be subtle, but it should also say, "This is me."  He keeps insisting, "You're making it, it's up to you."  I keep insisting,  "You're going to have to wear it, I want it to be something you'll like."

It's not every day I get to make something for someone else.....

It's an obi. There IS no heraldry protocol for it. The leather belt he was given does not have anyone's arms on it. The obi will likely not have anyone's arms on it, though it may incorporate a subtle repeating pattern using his primary....

As mentioned, I need to give it a think based on the info I have so far and play around with some sketches. I'm thinking that one side will be plain and the other peanut, er, I mean decorated.

Squire belt heraldry protocol is, IIRC, rather informal. It's not defined in corpora. I'm not sure it's even covered in kingdom law (not that I've ever been an expert on any kingdom's law), it's just one of those things with decades of tradition holding it up.

There is absolutely no set rule about what a squire belt is or isn't. It can be anything you want and further there is no item restricted in use to squires. Squire is not a title and holds no rank. There are no "gottas" on this one. :)

It's one of those things that depends on the liege and
their
tradition. My own knight requested that my squire's belt have a representation of his badge, but that is hardly a universal thing.

Yes. Yes, he is. ;-D Especially with scary friends like you and purplepenguin to look out for him. It's kinda your fault that I decided to lend my support.

And I believe you HAVE a lady who makes you stuff, do you not?

Reoga is a good kid, just needs smacked around more often.

As for my lady, she makes excellent clothing. Hunting hanfu {historic clothing of the Han} is the real pain in the azz!

She certainly does. I admit I know jack about Han clothing, but I thought you both looked amazing.
