The parts of Beltane that did not suck.

Having
mamapduck's most excellent company on the ride up.
We chatted about life, the universe, flipping off cell phone blocking cows, how her boys are doing, choosing a dog that will suit one's family and living arrangements and other things that were at least interesting and amusing to us. We decided to stop for food in Petaluma and stumbled across a Powell's Sweet Shoppe in the process. I only bought two dark chocolate and ginger bars, a package of Monkey Mints which are banana flavored and I will probably never actually eat, and a bag of horehound candy. Dinner at a loud, cavernous joint called Tres Hombres that was pretty decent, though we were scratching our heads at the inclusion of garlic fries on an otherwise healthy plate of grilled chicken and vegetables.
Good neighbors, including
vvestfirzka and Co's monster "cottage."
A man scooped my chair out of my hands and carried it to morning court. It was Aelf. He counts, doesn' t he?
The nap Saturday afternoon. I was sitting with Gwenwhyfar and Stuart under the tree behind my tent and suddenly felt like horizontal would be a very good thing. I felt much better afterward.
Met Diana Listmaker. Yes, that Diana Listmaker. It was an old-timer-rich environment for this coronation.
Some Guy offered me HIS chair during afternoon court - and I smiled and took it. (If this means, O My Readers, that some of you have figured out who he is, just move along, there is nothing to see here.) Then someone from the moneyer's guild lobbed coins into the crowd and Frederick fumbled the catch and it almost - but not quite - went down the back of my leine.
Finding and cracking the unidentifiable bottle of very good sake that nobody else had dared touch at Mari's strawberry leaf party. Couldn't read a thing on the label, but it was decorated with a scene from the 12th Genji Monogatari manuscript. Ghislaine handed it to me with a dubious, "It has a screw top." As sake does not come with a cork, this is not an indicator of quality or lack thereof. Would've been better chilled, but it was still nice. Had some face time with
barone_antonio, got to hear
allergicone do some Dowland pieces she'd been working on, and watching Antonio and Judith play-fighting out back was just silly in a good way.
The House of Cheerful Monkeys has a new sake set courtesy of
joycebre.
Duchess Constantina and Esmeralda started dancing when George and I passed by with the hurdy gurdy.
Got the hurdy gurdy to behave pretty well for the maypole dance.
Aelf did his bardic stuff for me before the competition for feedback purposes. He needs mileage, but there's definite potential, particularly in his thought-provoking original stuff.
Had a visit with
momstable and her boys.
Had a lovely chat with Diane de Winchester.
Managed to keep random pennywhistle squawks to a minimum while playing 'Rufty Tufty" for the Pied D'argent in a variable wind that kept changing direction.
On the way home we ran into
leohtulf at the Cloverdale McDonalds and all ended up having lunch together. (Then some boob in a Volvo ran into him on 101. We saw the whole thing. They're both OK and hopefully Stupid Volvo Boy now knows what the short pedal is for.)
