You know, the LJ community dedicated to trashing people's makeup? The ones who got sloppy and left electronic footprints by hotlinking to my website? This is why I didn't just laugh it off. THIS is why I protested their bullshit idea of having fun at other people's expense.

This is about being deliberately cruel with impunity - it's the Internet, nobody can catch me, therefore I can get away with it. We've gotten jaded by daily deluges of spam and phishing emails. McAfee no longer bothers to send me alerts about every new virus - it's just assumed that they happen and that McAfee will try to defend me from them as long as I buy their services.

I'm a big girl. I can take care of myself. Not everyone can.

Every time I think my own school experiences were bad (they were, but also Long Long Ago), I see another one of these kind of stories and realize that today's high-tech bullies (or some helicopter parent) would have snapped me like a twig 8/

I am still, in fact, a total marshmallow baby when it comes to verbal abuse in any degree, but it only really happens to me now as often as it would to any adult. That realization has been a long time coming 8)
