Slacker Saionji and the Kitsune

I got Urtatim and all her stuff down to the event site. With none of the pastries she'd made for the royalty so much as crumbled.
I actually found parking only a block away. I did not get ticketed even though the entire town is posted with 2 Hour Parking signs.
"Kitsune" turned out to be even older than I am. She showed up in pseudogypsyrenwenchcalico - which is perfectly ok for the SCA, especially for a newcomer. Snarkers need not comment. Don't make me reach for the Smackity Fan. I mean it.
(She says she took my class at Costume Con, which now has me scratching my head over the email she sent me about whether my class went ok. Maybe she meant she wanted to know if I thought it went OK from my side of the lectern?)
I made a point of introducing her to people. She told at least three of them she was a gypsy fortune teller. She thought it was cool people were wandering around with inkle looms and drop spindles. She herself is a potter and writes haiku, among other things.
I tried to explain the various players and what was going on in the first court of the day. Something like Investiture isn't exactly the best place to take a newcomer. It's court intensive and that's not much fun if you don't know any of the people involved.
Then She Asked That Question. I think I managed to adequately and politely explain to her why a shapeshifter kitsune is not an appropriate persona for the SCA. This while the Princess of the Mists is enthusing forsoothly, "You guys rock!" at her guard and with a woman in Italians with hair dyed colors not found in nature. (Yes, My Society is freaking schizo, yes, we get all kinds, but you weren't here when Satyroo showed up at a Crown Tourney in horns and hairy goat pants.)
My lunch selection - strawberries, two kinds of cheese, crackers and Destrooper waffle cookies - was so Just Right even Goldilocks could not have complained. My newcomer left around 2:30 in the afternoon, but appeared to have had a decent time and expressed interest in Kingdom A&S. (Note to self, email her with necessary info.)
I actually got a "Good morning" out of Her Majesty. Possibly because I bowed and said "Good morning, Your Majesty" in a loud, chirpy, hard-to-ignore-in-a-roomful-of-people voice first. Or not.
Never made it back into the hall after the first session of court. It was nice out behind the hall in the shade. I ended up spending the rest of the day out there, chatting with various friends and keeping half an eye on the various small children who were playing nearby before calling it quits and heading home.
EDIT: I think it's time for me to take the "If It's Tuesday, you must be Kitsune," posts from January and turn them into an article for my website. I went back and read them last night. They're reasonable, un-snarky, and have some small value.....

A successful trickster does not reveal that she is, in fact, inhuman.
Now, if she wants to sprout tails and whiskers at a masked ball or perform kyogen, that's different.
