I am Having An Idea.

1. [profile] gcmadtown81 is coming to visit next week, so we'd planned to be day-trip West Kingdom's A&S tourney on Saturday.  Actual class schedule is HERE because someone, somewhere obviously didn't think to link it to the event website!
2. [personal profile] bovil and [personal profile] kproche have indicated interest in day-tripping said event, as have [personal profile] trystbat.
3. [profile] gcmadtown81 and I will be in Japantown the day before. In close proximity to Nippon-ya, Sakai's and Nijiya.

What does this conjunction of great minds - or at least demented ones - mean?

PICNIC!!!!

Merry-making under aronia blossoms by Kano Naganobu, early 17th c, Tokyo National Museum Collection.

If you are reading this and will be in attendance, the House Of Cheerful Monkeys would be honored to be your host for lunch. Tea, sake, onigiri (rice bombs with some sort of filling, most likely chicken), and other goodies.

What I get when I follow the first link above is the old copy (with some updated information to confuse you) and the class links go to 2006 classes.

Problem with the class schedule linked to the new copy, which is linked to the calendar, is that there are coding errors showing between the rows.

The url she has linked above (http://www.westkingdom.org/index.php?alias=schedule08&office=aands)

And when I go to it from the new West site also. In three places in Sunday's schedule, one place on Saturday's and at the very bottom of the table I see this:

Guess it would help if I made it un-html huh!

I have failed (as have the officers I've spoken to) to locate any of these alleged improvements. Seriously. This may be the ugliest website I've ever seen.

As for the schedule... there are a number of things on it that I want to attend and I am currently working out carpooling. J, are you interested in putting together a small group to stay for what looks to be a nice, unpretentious little dinner at the Sword and Lilly?

Random feedback:
I wish the "Kingdom Enrichment" classes were available for those of us who would like *not* to donate the items in question. I understand the concept, but I donate my stuff already and would prefer to keep first attempts to myself. I would really like to make a wax tablet but that's because I've wanted one for ages. If it were available as a "one to gift/one to keep" I'd do that too but spending $8 to make something I want badly and then not have one seems like a lousy way to spend an afternoon.

I think Countess Kara's "Persona Development" class actually ahs the information for her "Viking Embellishment" class listed.

There is a really nice broad spectrum of classes available this year and I look forward to the event.

Posting the "make one take one" thing to SCA West might be Well Advised. I am not the only one who thought it was a striaght donation and at least one person I know is MUCH more likely to pay $10 for the haversack class if she gets to have a haversack. I'll spread the word to a few folks I know as well.

Mistakes are minimal and correctable from what I could see. :) Cancellations happen. I bailed on one Collegium the night before because my lungs had gone on strike and I was afraid to drive. You can sometimes find people willing to fill the slot but nobody is going to Just Die if there isn't a class Friday night. :)

Actually, the guys were talking about descending upon a sushi restaurant en masse - or possibly Mongolian hot pot. I'll mention it and see if anyone is interested.

I love that screen, unfortunately I will be nowhere nearby to join your picnic.

*Please* send critiques to the web minister, the IT officer, and the seneschale. Right now it seems like nobody but the web minister and the IT officer *like* the kingdom web page - and they respond to critiques with "but it's what everybody said they wanted/needed."

You will be asked to compare the page to the other kingdoms' pages (something I haven't done yet).

But the "it should fit what people said they needed" is why the critique needs to go to the Seneschale as well as the web officers. She needs a fighting chance to say, "no, people *don't* like it; it *doesn't* fit their needs."

What game are the men with sticks playing in the right side of the picture?

Those are swords. I honestly think they're either dancing (note the one gesturing with a fan) or standing around having one of those typical fighter conversations.

I love the picnic idea! I'm still sketchy about going & how I'd get there, but if I do, I'll bring something to contribute. Prob. not Japanese tho, since I'm not good at making anything of that sort (just eating it ;-)
