A shout out to my LJ friends to give a warm welcome to the lovely and talented
vittoriosa.
Some of you already know her, some of you may remember her from my "anachronism" post a couple of months back.

Crazy footwear
Date: 2008-06-06 06:40 pm (UTC)On a totally unrelated note: Any chance you and your hurdygurdy are going to be at A&S early on Saturday? My 9am class is going to include a brief period-instruments demo...we've got the usual suspects (recorder, percussion), and some more exotic items (vielle, bladder pipe, and a shawm that will make me the enemy of anyone trying to sleep in). Would love to include the 'gurdy as well, if it's convenient for you -- if not, no worries.

Date: 2008-06-06 07:53 pm (UTC)This ain't Facebook or Myspace. It's part of the reason I like it.
"Friends" isn't a good descriptor, but there isn't really any good descriptor. The "Friends" list is for two things. One is "Who do I want to read?" The other is "Who do I want to let read my restricted posts?"
If you're only going to post public-level posts, you only have to worry about the first one. If you're going to post friends-only posts, then you've got to think about whether or not the two things overlap (which is why there isn't a good single descriptor, sometimes they don't), or learn how to use friends-filters to further restrict access.
I'm with you. My "friends" list is mostly folks I know in real life (or whatever approaches real life). There are a few authors and artists whom I've friended, but I've only picked up maybe a half dozen folks through purely online interactions, and most of them have direct connections to folks I know in real life.
