Got up early-ish and rode my bike out to Alameda Point, where I discovered that (a) they do, in fact, have bike racks at the antiques market entrance and that (b) some people are so cheap they'd rather buy a $5 ticket and stand in an absurdly long line for half an hour or more, rather than pay $10 and go in before 9 AM. I wouldn't care except the milling sheep effect only added to confusion and a lot of people didn't know they could buy their tickets and go right in rather than wait.

Bought three pairs of earrings from a nice Mexican lady for the princely sum of $20. The pretty jade ones with gold wires may be worth that alone, but the true score were the 1960's classically mod screw back and clip earrings. (I wore the clips for several hours this afternoon. They pinch a little, but they looked great. I may replace the screw backs with wires.)

I also browsed some vintage clothing racks and tried on a pink and grey patterned polyester swing coat that was mercifully a size too small for me. At about 9:45, my cell rang. [livejournal.com profile] ladycelia and I had discussed trying to get together and do something. I told her I would head back home and call her as soon as I got there. I biked past a ludicrous traffic jam that was backed up from the flea market parking area all the way to the corner of Atlantic and Webster. Clearly, a lot of people stayed home this Labor Day and decided to come out to the market. I'm kind of glad I left when I did.

Called [livejournal.com profile] ladycelia when I got in and gave her directions to my place. We did brunch at Little House Cafe, whose rest room Danabren needs to see. Best waffles ever. I'm telling you, with peach compote.  Drove into SF to walk around North Beach. The vintage store she wanted to take me to had gone over to mostly men's clothing, but was still worth a look. There was another place run by a batty woman with an Eastern European accent who won't let customers actually touch the clothing she wants to sell and practically drove us out of the store.

Sat in Washington Square and people watched a bit, then had lemonades and dessert at Cafe Trieste. The cannoli wasn't bad: the filling was what it should be, the pastry could have stood to be crisper.

Came back across the bay and took a few pictures out at the now mostly deserted Point, then sent my friend home so she can put her birds to bed.

Pics are up here.
