Once again, SFTweed announces a ride with less than a week's notice. Of course, it's conveniently close to home (YAY!) and conflicts with Beltane (BOO!). http://sftweed.com/ I wouldn't dare attempt to cross at the Posey Tube, but I could have ridden to Fruitvale BART and hopped off the train at Lake Merritt or Twelfth Street easily enough.

Is it stealing if it's from oneself?
Apr. 25th, 2011 07:15 pmGlory was on cable while I was eating dinner, so I put it on for awhile. There's this scene where Col. Shaw (Matthew Broderick) picks out a new recruit who's got years of squirrel huntin' under his belt, and starts yelling at him to reload, faster, faster, faster, borrows the Captain's revolver and starts firing it behind the now-flustered recruit. The lesson: these men aren't soldiers yet.
Hmm, I thought. There's a nearly identical scene in The Last Samurai. So I come upstairs after the credits roll and sure enough, both films were directed by Ed Zwick. Zwick has a writing credit on Samurai, though not on Glory.
Gettysburg is on TMC this evening, but it's four hours long. Not gonna even try on a week night. Don't get me wrong, I saw it in the theatre and thought it was good, but not tonight.
EDIT: Bite the Bullet was on Encore Western. Hadn't seen it in years and I was pleased that it still holds up and I still love Gene Hackman's tough little buckskin cow pony.
