Glaciers move faster than LiveJournal
Jun. 9th, 2011 07:13 pmI've been experiencing ridiculous delay times trying to navigate around LJ all week. It's not my machine - I've run scans, cleared the cache, all that sort of thing. Navigation of other sites is just fine, so I must conclude that it's at LJ's end. Irritating in that catching up with my friends is taking so long.
First batch of onigiri (teriyaki chicken mixed in) is made and cooling in a container in the fridge. Rice is soaking for a vegetarian batch which will have shelled edamame in 'em. The period version of onigiri is plain rice and salt. Not the most exciting thing to eat, however, due to the time constraints of my class schedule, grilling a fish to serve or doing other meat on skewers would take too long to get going and I can't be in two places at once. Besides, the monkeys may be cheerful, but they're pretty useless as sous-chefs. Also on the menu, two types of pickled veg, shrimp crackers, ginger wafers, sesame crunch thingies, chestnut filled manju, hami melon and a mini watermelon, tea and Sho Chiku Bai nigori sake if anyone is in the mood for it.
No idea if anyone actually wants to take my classes, as usual. There's a good selection of stuff I'm up against and Asian subjects are just not gonna be a big draw in this kingdom. (Her Highness of Cynagua has indicated they're not going to make it to A&S.)
Time to go apply heat to rice.....
In random amusing news, JAF, the fellow I made clothes for last year, went to an event (called Melee Madness, IIRC) in a kingdom neighboring his and was called into court to receive their award of valor. Not bad for a self proclaimed "dirty merc," who was afraid to introduce himself to me at Estrella one year because I was pouring sake for the Princess of the Mists and Cynagua at the time.
In other random news, Sylvia has made the trek out here to begin her job hunt. I had dinner with her and Lyman last night at the always enjoyable Cafe Raj in Albany. James is currently back in New Jersey. Having done the long distance thing with Rich(Gaius), I know how muchly it doth suck. Sylvia's one of those crack high-level admins and should be eminently placeable as companies start staffing back up again. He's currently working for a company that's actually based out here and hoping to find a way to transfer here.
In yet more random news, we have a week off, then start a new session of taiko classes on June 21. Shannon-sensei told us he'd like to do a recital at the end of it as a fundraiser for Japan disaster relief. Should be fun if we can get our pieces whipped into shape for it.
Time to go make the second batch of onigiri.....
