Posted yesterday to the principality list: "We have pledged to our King and Queen that our ancient and noble Principality would have no fewer than _20_ entries at the upcoming A&S Championship. The categories have been made generously broad in order to encourage everyone to submit entries that they are supremely interested in.

Please, take this opportunity to embarrass your Prince and Princess by submitting great works of Arts & Science in such quantity that my promise is to like promising a wee bit of sunshine to our cousins in Cynagua."

Eighteen days before the Championship is leaving a bit late, especially when one could have had this genius idea at or just after Purgatorio when the Championship was announced. It could've been part of the whole pre- Mists/Cynagua war rivalry.

But what do I know?

My first thought on reading that message was "They really hate the A&S officers, don't they?". Judging competitions is horrible, thankless work even in ordinary times.

Sorry, I was not clear. The "They" I referred to was the P&P of the Mists, not the K&Q of the West. The additional pressure to enter, when you have to enter every category to be competitive, is going to create a huge number of entries. I had been thinking of entering the paper competition, but I hate to add to the A&S burden when I'm not really serious to win. Perhaps we can talk at the Cook's collegium this weekend.

You know that 'common sense' is not common at all...is the OP looking for an excuse to pout and berate people for not participating in his/her Grand Scheme?
And I agree with [livejournal.com profile] ppfuf that judging the extravaganza is going to be horrid.

Their Highnesses are nice people. This smacks of a last minute gee whiz enthusiastic impulse with no forethought attached to it. That having been said, I also feel that choosing the word "embarrass" for their missive is REALLY tempting fate.

Yeah, that's not how I would have said it. You know there's somebody out there who is going to do something with that.
