Oakland's Cathedral of Christ The Light was dedicated yesterday. For the past three years this has been Job# 625083, rolling past on various reports and time cards. This morning, I noticed that someone had left a copy ofthe air balance report for #625083 on the work table in the copy room.  Last spring I happened to be in downtown Oakland and saw what looked like a huge, upended ship's hull on a concrete plinth - and began to have an inkling of how complex the job of building the HVAC systems to air condition such a structure would be.

I'm a traditionalist when it comes to church architecture. Romanesque scuplture, Gothic arches, stained glass. I love all that stuff. I have to confess I watched the news last night slack jawed. This place is freaking gorgeous. No mass schedule on the cathedral website yet, but evidently they will be conducting tours starting in October. (OK, so I didn't help "build" it, but I supported some of the people who did.)

Oh, wow, that cathedral defies description. And they offer Mass in 17 different languages?!! If I ever get over to that part of California again, I certainly want to go see that place!

Like you, I also tend to favor more traditional forms of churches--one thing that is actually nice about where I live is all the very old buildings around here. It's not quite like being in Europe, but has a similar feel.
