1. You mention on an electronic forum that you are attending an event.  Someone you do not know except as a random assortment of keystrokes says, "Oh, be sure to tell Sven the Nun Raper that Clueless Poster says hi!"

No useful clue is furnished as to who STNR is, what he looks like, or where one such as oneself might be likely to encounter STNR and not have to use self defense techniques.

2. If you write to me telling me how awesome my website is, asking me to recommend resources tells me you have not bothered to read the awesomeness. I go to a lot of trouble to include a list of resources at the end of each article, both print and on-line. It's not just to make you think I didn't pull it all out of my ass, it's so you can use it and come to your own conclusions.

And on that note, I am off for the weekend.....

I might suggest that you add boilerplate at the top of your article pages to this effect:

If you've been referred here looking for references on the subject, you'll find my bibliography and list of sources by scrolling to the end of this article. I humbly offer, however, that you may be able to put them in better context if you read said article en route.

Or is the last sentence too snarky?

Silly me, I expect my readers to, you know, read.

So which is more annoying... that you suspect they aren't reading, or that those suspicions are repeatedly confirmed by emails asking for the references that are already on your pages?

But I thought you knew everybody!

I managed to find the references at the end of the articles... And even was able to locate a book or two so I could read them myself.

But then again I have mad reading skilz and not everyone is as cool as me :)
