Happy sigh.

Yesterday, one of the fellows posted photos of his cardboard mock-up for some Japanese armor. Not being an armor expert, I wrote "Looks most armor-like to this useless and decorative female," which is my way of saying, "I think it looks fine, but I'm deferring to the more knowledgeable armor-geeks on this topic." Oh, and being funny. As Roger Rabbit, or at least Gaius used to say, "I couldn't do it if it wasn't funny." Old Roger may have been no more than paint on a cel, but he knew this: "A laugh can be a very powerful thing. Why, sometimes in life, it's the only weapon we have."
This morning, he wrote: "and may I respectfully point out your oxymoron - you have put the word "female" with "useless" and even if said use was "only" being decorative, you have shown yourself to be both helpful with information and a source [of] good will - thanks."
This is what comes of quoting sources and including attributions. This is what comes of saying, "As far as I know, there are examples of X. If anyone has seen Y, please share!" because I haven't seen it all. This it what comes of offering, "Let me take a look at my books when I get home and get back to you on that," and doing so. This is what comes of being able to say, "I honestly don't know." And of course, being able to throw a little funny in there and remind people we're supposed to be doing this because it is fun.
It feels awfully good.
