Okedodaiko are done - and as soon as my laundry is, I have to run out and get more cordage to rope the three "mini" shime.

And here are the baby shime-daiko. Seeing as the tubing was acquired as a result of an auspicious dumpster dive, I opted to work with the proportions of the tube rather than go with larger drum heads. The finished shime have a height of about 4 1/2" and a head diameter of about 9"

THIS is an awesome website on constructing okedodaiko:
http://members.cox.net/drum/okedo01.htm

They are light weight. They SOUND like drums. They will endure the extremes of February in Arizona better than a wine barrel with rawhide stretched over it. I built enough drums to teach my class without going broke, and I did it with a hand saw, a pair of utility scissors and a paint brush within the confines of my apartment and the alley outside!

A Certain Person would do well to put that in her critical inkstone and grind it. Contact paper my ass.
I am DAMN proud of my stuff-makin' skills.

You *should* cover the forms with paint/contact paper. Like something with sparkles and rainbows and My Little Pony. Just to make ACP choke. Surely it can be done with Photoshop, yes?

(I was horrified when she suggested that they be covered because the spiral seam could be detected. GO MAKE YER OWN CRAP BEFORE YOU SNIT ON SOMEONE ELSE'S!!)

Those are very handsome drums! ("Daiko" is acceptable if talking about more than one type at the same time??)

Now I want to make my own! Thank you for the pics!

Japanese words do not add "s" for a plural. One samurai, seven samurai, two okedodaiko. ;-D

They must be. Bovil pointed it out on the Tousando forum earlier on in the project.

How is my dog? Are you taking good care of her?

Pining for you. She sits by the window gazing out and composing what I can only assume are haiku of longing and loneliness, as I do not speak dog.

They look really nice.... I think I'm going to make some for myself and my wife. She has always wanted to try taiko, but I doubt if she will really do much with it, so this is a cheap way to find out!

The REALLY cheap way to find out.

Before you go to the trouble, saw some wood dowels and get a 5 gallon plastic bucket. If you don't like drumming on that, you don't like drumming.

Ringing is the word. The sound isn't *quite* like that of something with a natural head, but they make a most agreeable thump when you whack 'em, and there is a distinct pitch difference between the big 'uns and the little 'uns, as there should be.
